The Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals study evaluates hospitals on measures of overall organization performance, including patient care, operational efficiency, and financial stability. 11 Michigan hospitals were recognized this year, including one Everest Award winner. The Everest Award is given to hospitals selected from the top 100 with the highest rate of improvement over five years. Scores are awarded based on objective research and public information. Hospitals do not apply for this award and winners do not pay to market this honor. Two categories where Michigan hospitals shine is Teaching Hospitals, with four recipients, and Small Community Hospitals, with five honorees, including Everest Award Winner St. Joseph Health System in Tawas City.
